Affiliate Marketing – not as intimidating as it sounds.
If you are new to blogging, like I am, affiliate marketing is not something you take lightly. Applying to some is like applying to college. Yes, there are some that are fairly easy to get into, but others … MY … OH … MY 🙈 🙊 🙉
I remember when I first read the words “Affiliate Marketing”. The first time I read about it my thoughts were “nah … not yet”. But as I went on about my life and read other peoples’ blogs, I saw it more and more. As a result, I jumped on the bandwagon and decided to try it out for myself.
And of course like everything else blogging related, the load of information is overwhelming.
What you need to know before you dive in head first ⬇⬇⬇
What is Affiliate Marketing?
- A marketing arrangement between the merchant or retailer/network/publisher and the affiliate (you)
- The parties pay the affiliate commission based on the traffic and sales generated from referrals
Types of Products
- Digital Products (aka information marketing)
- Physical Product
- Online Services
- Memberships and Subscriptions
Before jumping into affiliate marketing know that it’s not fast, automatic, or without effort. It requires daily involvement in order for it to be successful. Also, research and select the right affiliate products for your niche. Don’t just pick anything and everything because chances are you won’t be very successful in it. Pick products you are passionate and interested about. Choose products you are likely to use, have used, or purchased. Having used the product is big when establishing trust and credibility with your readers.
There are tons of affiliate programs covering just about any product or service you can think of. Be sure to research the program you want to join in advance because not all are created equal. Also keep in mind that some affiliate networks do not accept applications from individuals living in certain states.
Amazon for example does not accept applicants living in the state of Illinois. I know because I tried. Reason – tax law. There are also certain merchants, like Lulus, that don’t accept applicants from Illinois as well. Again, I know because I tried 😫
Why do I want to become an affiliate?
I like learning about new things and interesting ways to turn a profit. We live in a time where technology and social media have become an essential part of our lives and I, for one, don’t want to be behind. And for obvious reasons of course – money, recognition, free stuff. I mean that’s the dream, right? Make money while sleeping 💰 💵
